Argentina is renowned for its high-quality meat. With rearing techniques dating back centuries, resulting in superb cuts of beef that exude tenderness and exquisite tastes. Argentina has a world-class reputation for their beef, which produces tantalising steak that offers superior levels of succulent flavour.
Why is Argentine beef so good?
Many have asked ‘why is Argentine beef so good?’ and it’s easy to see why. The sensational rich taste and tenderness of Argentine steak make it a serious contender alongside other well known superior beef such as Wagyu and Aberdeen Angus. The reason why Argentine beef is so good lies in it’s rearing methods. The cattle graze on Las Pampas and no growth hormones are used during this process. The superb flavours are also a result of the way in which Argentine steak is cut. The cuts are chosen based on textures, so each is consistently the same texture throughout, as opposed to other types of steak which can often be made up of a number of textures in one cut. These Argentinian techniques date back to the 16th Century and are still used today.
Is Argentine beef grass-fed?
As explained above, Argentine beef is raised on Las Pampas, also known as Pampas grass which is a type of flowering plant that is native to South America. The cattle feed on Las Pampas, which results in lean, flavoursome beef.
How do you cook an Argentine steak?
- The most authentic way to cook an Argentine steak is to use a low and slow cooking method, usually over wood or charcoal briquettes in a stone or ceramic grill. Of course, most of us don’t have the luxury of this type of cookware, but Argentine steak can also be cooked on a BBQ or a griddle pan.
- When cooking steak Argentinian-style, it is best to avoid using a marinade. The beef is already full of flavour so there’s no need to marinate the steak beforehand. A simple salt-water brine can be used during cooking to help keep the meat juicy.
- When cooking Argentine steak, aim for extra tender meat inside and a charred crust on the outside. To do this, don’t move the meat. Once it touches the metal, keep it still. The metal against the steak will result in searing and helps to create a wonderfully charred crust.
